SSC conduct the examination for SSC CHSL in a three-tier form which is known as SSC CHSL Tier 1, SSC CHSL Tier 2 and SSC CHSL Tier 3. SSC CHSL Tier is a computer-based examination and online mode examination. In SSC CHSL Tier 1 examination questions are asked from four subject Quantitative Aptitude, General Intelligence/Reasoning, General English and General Knowledge. Spotting Errors 

Questions based on spotting errors are given in a sentence which is divided into three parts (a), (b) and (c). The aspirant has to select the part from which there is an error. If there is no error in the sentence then part (d) given with 'no errors' is to be selected.

Sentence Improvement 

A sentence is given in questions based on sentence improvement. In this sentence, a part is given by bold, italic or underline. There are some errors in this part. This error can be idiomatic or grammatical. Your part is to make the substitute in the sentence right from the options given in the answer. If the sentence is correct i.e. the substitution is not needed, then your answer will require no improvement or no correction. The main purpose of this type of question is to check the grammatical knowledge of the aspirants.

Voice

 In the questions based on voice, a sentence is given in the active/passive voice. Under this sentence, four options are given. The aspirant has to select the option from these options which correctly passive/active voice expresses the given sentence.

Direct And Indirect Speech 

One sentence in Direct and Indirect Speech questions is given in Direct / Indirect Speech. Under this sentence, four options are given. Out of these options, aspirants have to select the option which expresses the given sentences in the appropriate way in the indirect/direct speech.

Idioms And Phrases

Questions based on Idioms and Phrases are usually asked in two types. The first type of questions are given in a sentence using idiom/phrase and this part is given in underline, bold or italics. aspirants have to select the appropriate meaning from the given options for this Idiom / Phrase. In the second type of questions only Idiom / Phrase is given as a question and the aspirant has to choose the appropriate meaning from the given options.

Idiom

The group of words which have a special meaning that differ from the meaning of the words used in them is called Idiom.

Phrase

A group of words that provide a special or definite meaning when used together is called a Phrase.

Questions based on synonyms are usually asked in two types. In the first type of questions, a word is given in the form of a question. The aspirant has to select the appropriate synonym from the four options given for this word. In another type, in one sentence, one word is given in bold, italics or underline. The candidate has to choose the appropriate synonym for this term from the given options.

Synonyms

Synonyms are those words which are synonymous with each other. I mean that words which are exactly alike are called synonym.

Antonyms 

Questions based on Antonyms are usually asked in two types. In the first type of questions, one word is given as a question. Aspirants have to choose suitable Antonym from the four options given for this word. In the second type of questions, one sentence is given in bold, italics or underline. The four options are given to the aspirants to select appropriate Antonym for this term.

Antonyms

Antonyms are those words which are the opposite of each other, i.e. words that have the opposite meaning are called antonyms.

One Word Substitution

 In Questions based on One Word Substitution, a set of sentences or words is given and four words are given as options. The aspirant has to select the word from these options which can be used in place of a given sentence or word group.

 Spelling Test

The questions based on the Spelling Test are usually asked in two types. In the first type of questions four words are given, only one word is spelled correctly. Candidates have to select the word spelled correctly from these words.In the second type of question , four words are given only one word is wrongly spelled. Candidate has to select the wrongly spelled word from these words.

Sentence  Completion

A sentence is given in questions based on Sentence Completion. In this sentence, a blank space (.......) is given. Choosing a suitable option from the given options for space is to make Grammatically correct and meaningful.

Rearrangement Of Sentences / Words

In a question based on Reanangement of Sentences / Words, a paragraph or sentence is divided into some parts. These parts are given in sequence in order not to be given in sequence. The candidate has to construct a meaningful sentence or passage by putting these parts in a systematic order.

Cloze Test

Questions based on the Cloze Test include a passage in which there are few blank spaces. A few words are given below the passage for each space. Candidates have to select appropriate words for each of the given options.

Comprehesion

In the questions based on comprehension, a passage is given, as well as some questions related to the information given in the passage are given. The candidate has to select the appropriate answer from the given options for these questions. . Comprehension means the power of understanding, that is, understanding of a passage and then to bring out the meaning and significance from it.
